8 Fun Winter Date Ideas
There are two ways to look at winter. You can see it as a season of cold temperatures, icy roads, high heating bills and the only time of the year that any human being would ever consider consuming fruit cake. Or, you can see it as the perfect backdrop to spending some quality time with your significant other. Personally, we find the latter to be a great way to escape from the former.
You probably share the same view, however, you may be at a loss for coming up with fresh winter date ideas. Fret not, that is what we’re here for. By choosing any of the suggestions listed below, you will be assured a wonderful time with your partner in even the coldest of winter days. Here are eight fun winter date ideas.
1. Ice Skating
When was the last time you went ice skating? No matter if it was days or years ago, there is no better winter date than one that involves ice skating. Be it an indoor rink, or a more traditional outdoor venue, the both of you will build up plenty of fun and romantic memories by going ice skating together.
What’s that, you say — one of you doesn’t know how to ice skate? No worries, that makes an ice skating date even more exciting. It also gives you the chance to hold each other as the skater “teaches” the non-skater.
2. Weekend Ski Trip
There is no better getaway than a weekend on the slopes. Of course, you don’t have to spend your time actually skiing. Enjoying a romantic meal at the lodge, cozy nights in your cabin by the fireplace… Really, does this require much explanation?
3. Volunteer Together
Winter is the part of the year when many organizations need a little extra help. Volunteering together may not be what most people think of when asked for date ideas, but it can be a good choice.
It allows for the noblest virtues of the both of you to shine brightly in unison. Be it at a homeless shelter, or any other organization that is dear to your hearts – spending a day helping other people can be a solid bonding experience for you as a couple. It also provides much-needed assistance to those that need it most. A win-win for all of humanity.
4. Chocolat Chaud pour Deux (Hot Chocolate for Two)
Chocolate is truly the elixir of love — especially in winter. Imagine you and your significant other spending a tasty night at home sampling some of the finest hot chocolates and cocoas from around the world. Whether you buy them at your local gourmet food store or order them online, sampling the world’s best chocolates cuddled next to your sweetheart is sure to melt the winter blues away. A simple, yet effective in-home winter date. By the way, don’t forget the whipped cream on top… it’s quite tasty on the chocolate as well.
5. Spa Date
There are two takes on a winter spa date. One involves booking a spa session as a couple at your favorite salon. There is something uniquely intimate about being tended to as a couple. The both of you will emerge relaxed and would have shared an experience not many couples do.
The other take — our personal favorite — recreates the spa experience at home. What makes this so much better is that each of you takes turns pampering and soothing the other. Sensual massages, scented candles — whatever you have on hand can get this type of date started. Also, being at home there is no need to worry about wearing robes.
6. Roller Skating
We already mentioned ice skating, but you should also consider its folksier cousin, roller skating. Think about it, winter is the perfect time to go to a roller skating rink. It is in a temperature controlled building, so there’s no need to wear bulky clothing while your inside. The casual atmosphere is also conducive to feeling more relaxed around each other — great if you just started going out.
A roller rink offers plenty of opportunity for frivolity as a couple. From laughing at each others moves around the rink as the classic beats from the 70s, 80s, 90s and today blast in the background — to going head to head playing video games in the arcade. Roller skating can make for some winter fun as a couple.
7. Antiquing
This one won’t be for everybody, but if the both of you enjoy more refined pursuits, then it is incumbent upon us to remind you that winter is the best season for antiquing. There is something about going from the crisp cool air into the warm sedate atmosphere of an antique shop to spur your purchasing juices as a couple.
Somehow in that climate, the birchwood chest in the corner seems to call out to the both of you. Whatever you buy antiquing together — birchwood chest or otherwise — will become an heirloom for your relationship. If you’re not into antiquing this may sound corny to you, but for those of you that are into it — you know what we mean.
8. Indoor Cookout
A cold winter’s afternoon or evening is the perfect time to light up a fire, throw some comfy blankets on the floor and start enjoying some good food and even better company (we’re referring to your partner, in case we weren’t implicit enough).
The presence of the fire and the coziness of the setting already establishes a romantic mood. Add to it some tantalizingly delicious and decadent foods — such as cheese fondue, chocolate fondue, smores, wienies roasted over the open flame, etc — and now you’re playing with some industrial-strength amorous vibes. By making everything on this winter date menu easy to feed to your partner by hand — you are ensuring a hot night, even in the dead of winter.
— Why Winter Dates Are the Best —
Winter dates can be some of the most memorable for couples because winter offers so many opportunities to set a context that focuses on the two of you. The necessity to find shelter from the weather brings about cozier settings. Even the outdoor winter date activities all culminate with an indoor wrap-up. This makes winter dating more intimate.
