— In-Depth Muslima Review —
Compared to other niches, there are not many online dating sites dedicated to the Muslim dating community. Muslima.com is a dating site that not only focuses on Muslims, but it also bases its entire platform around helping Muslim members of the community find each other for marriage. It presents itself as a serious dating site — respectful and not for casual encounters.
Muslima claims to have a user base of over 4.5 million people. Its marketing material creates an image of a reliable and morally friendly dating site.
Is Muslima effective? After all, it is quite easy to establish a marketing image and it is quite another to fulfill the expectations of users — especially when it comes to serious long-term dating and marriage.
— First Impression —
When we first visited the Muslima.com welcome page we were pleasantly surprised to encounter something familiar. The overall look and design of the site indicated to us that Muslima was operated by Cupid Media. By scrolling down to the footer of the page, we were able to confirm that Muslima is, in fact, part of the Cupid Media family of dating sites.
Cupid media operates close to 40 niche dating sites, most focusing on specific regional or ethnic groups. Most of the sites that we have seen under their control perform reasonably well. Right off the bat, that is a plus for Muslima.
— Registration Process —
Registration on Muslima is straightforward. If you join by using your Facebook account, the process takes less than a minute. Muslima imports your basic personal data and images from your Facebook account creating a basic dating profile for you. If you wish to exclude your Facebook account, Muslima allows you to register manually. This involves entering your personal information through a series of on-screen data fields. That process, while taking a little bit longer, is also not too time-consuming. In our testing, manual registration was done in less than 3 minutes.
When you first register, you are not forced to amplify your profile immediately. You can do so whenever it is convenient for you. The dating profiles on Muslima allow you to provide information regarding your physical, personality, and lifestyle attributes. There are also text fields where you can express more about yourself in your own words.
Since Muslima uses the Cupid Media platform, we would recommend that you complete as much of your profile as possible. The Muslima algorithms rely heavily on the information that you post on your profile page to seek out potential matches for you.
— The Platform —
You can access the Muslima platform via any desktop browser. Additionally, the site also has a native app for Android devices. This can be downloaded for free from Google Play.
In terms of performance, we found both the desktop and mobile version to be reliable and free of technical issues. In terms of usability, it is our opinion that when it comes to building or tweaking your profile — as well as when you want to probe deeper into the profile of other members — that is done more easily on the desktop version. We found the mobile version to be more useful in situations when you are conducting simple searches or happen to have some free time to casually glance through other profiles. The live chat feature works equally as well on both platforms.
— Features —
Muslima has a robust, albeit uncomplicated, set of features. The key feature of this site revolves around its search function. When you first enter the member’s area, you will be served with a series of tiled images belonging to other members that the site has determined would be a good match for you. On the left side of your screen, you can customize the search settings to make them more suitable to the characteristics you are seeking in a partner.
Once you spot a profile that interests you, by clicking on their profile image a short version of their profile will open. On there you can choose to add them to your favorites list, click on the “show interest” button, or send them a message. You also have the option of expanding their profile.
On the expanded profile page you get a complete rundown of the member’s physical, lifestyle, and dating attributes. These are presented in a two-column format. each column denotes the areas that you have in common. We found this visual way of demonstrating matching criteria to be quite helpful.
While you can send a message to another member at any time, Muslima also has a proactive feature that can help bring two people together. This involves the “show interest” button that we mentioned above. If you show interest in another member and that member also shows interest in you, you will both be notified of the fact in order to allow you the opportunity to open up a messaging channel.
— Translation Feature —
Since Muslima serves a community that comes from many different parts of the world, it also offers a message translation feature. That way, if you come across somebody that interests you but who does not share your language, you can still communicate with them through the Muslima platform.
— Cost —
Muslima has a free version as well as two paid versions. The free version is very limiting. It only allows for simple searches and it does not offer advanced algorithmic matching. You are able to send interests and to send messages to paying members, but that’s about it. Aso, the free version serves ads from third-parties.
If you want to have access to the live chat feature as well as to be able to send and receive messages from all members, you will need to pay for a Gold membership. If you want to have double the space on your profile page, have preferential placement, access to the advanced matching algorithms, and use of the message translation features, you will need a Platinum membership.
A Gold membership costs $38.56 per month. You can also choose to pay for a three-month package at $77.15, or a one year package for $154.31.
Platinum membership will cost you $44.07 per month, or $88.17 for 3 months, or $176.37 for one year.
