Oasis Active Review: What Happened, and a Warning About the Old Domain

What Happened to Oasis Active?
Oasis Active was a genuinely popular free dating site, and it did not die because it was bad. It died because free stopped paying for itself.
It launched in 2008 out of Australia and built a serious following there, in the UK, and across South and Central America. Free to join, free to message, no paywall waiting for you three clicks in. That is rare now and it was rare then. In June 2014 it merged with RSVP, another Australian dating name, and carried on under that umbrella.
The end came in December 2020, when the operators shut Oasis Active down along with their Spanish-language site Amorenlinea. The reasoning was straightforward and, to be fair to them, honest: it was a free site, advertising revenue had been falling year after year, and the platform underneath was getting more expensive to maintain. Members were pointed at a new app called Helium that had soft launched at the end of that year. The closure went down badly, which tells you how much people liked the place. This is the part that actually matters, and it is why this page exists rather than a plain closure notice.
The domain did not go quiet after the shutdown. It was picked up and it is running today, which means it returns a normal-looking website and does not look dead at a glance. It is not the dating site you remember and it has no connection to the original company.
What is there now is an international marriage agency funnel. It advertises Russian, Ukrainian, Slavic and Asian brides, quotes a success rate of about 93 percent, lists an average age range starting at 21, and puts an average cost of roughly 2,100 to 4,050 dollars on the process. That is a different industry to the one Oasis Active was in. Whatever you think of that business, it is not a free Australian dating site and nobody arriving from a search for their old login is expecting it.
Practical advice, plainly. Do not enter your old Oasis Active email and password there. Reusing an old login on a site that has changed hands is how credentials get harvested, and the operator has no relationship with the company you originally gave those details to. If you used that same password anywhere else, change it there too.
Be careful with the wider category as well. The paid-introduction and overseas-bride space overlaps heavily with romance fraud, which is consistently among the costliest consumer scams reported. Was Oasis Active any good?
For what it was, yes. The appeal was simple and it is basically extinct now: you could sign up, search, and message real people without a card. The trade was ads and a plain interface, which is exactly the bargain Oasis Active could not keep making once ad rates fell.
That model has almost vanished. Nearly everything calling itself free today means free to look and paid the moment you want to speak to someone. If you remember Oasis Active fondly, that is the thing you are actually missing, and no amount of searching the old domain will bring it back.
