When and Why Should I Send a Wink to Someone?
I’ve been on several online dating and hookup sites. I’ll be honest, to me, the hardest part on those sites is making the initial contact with someone. Sometimes, the other person is very responsive, other times you never get a reply. In my case, this pattern has held true whether I have sent long messages, or if I send a simple one-line messages. The one thing that I have been hesitant to use has been the wink feature. On every site that I have joined, they all have some variation of sending winks. Personally, I feel that a wink is kind of weak. Why do people send them? If I do decide to send them, when should I send them? I apologize if I sound naive, but I truly feel ignorant when it comes to winks.
The majority of dating sites have a wink sending feature. The fact that so many do, should indicate to you how popular and useful this type of feature can be. It is important that you look at a wink as a potential icebreaker. It is an effective way to let someone know that you find them interesting in those moments when you cannot come up with the right words for sending a more thorough message.
If you are shy or not good with words, a wink can be very helpful in that regard. You can also use winks as trial balloons. You can send someone a wink and then wait to see how they react. Yes, some people will completely ignore your wink and never reply. Others may reply with a message or a wink of their own. Regardless of their method for replying, this opens the door for you to then send them a traditional message.
This is why it is important for you to only send winks when you are in fact probing the other user to try and get a reply. Simply sending winks blindly to every person whose profile you find attractive is not a very efficient use of the feature.
In other words, send a wink to get the ball rolling. You will be surprised how many successful relationships started with something as simple as a dating site wink.
