Reasons Why Some People Choose To Remain Single Forever

Choosing to Remain Single

While the entire world is busy searching for a suitable partner and getting married, some people choose to remain single. When asked about marriage or courtship, they simply declare that they love being single too much to get hitched. Society has led us to believe that we are incomplete without a partner but the increasing number of “happily single” men and women have proved this belief wrong to some extent. However, it is not always easy to remain single as sometimes loneliness and depression can slowly creep into the mind. Some people are strong enough to fight all the negative feelings and continue with their well-nurtured “singlehood”.

What causes someone to willingly remain single forever? Here are eight reasons.

1. Due To Hurtful Experiences in The Past

People often abstain from venturing into a new relationship if they’ve gone through a bad one in the past. Usually, those who have gone through a bitter separation, a traumatic breakup or a divorce may opt to remain single for the rest of their lives. Even hurtful experiences from one’s childhood can form a defensive mindset in people and they often remaining single forever. This is a form of self-protection that prevents these people from starting any kind of relationship.

2. Fear Of Commitment and Fear of Intimacy

Sometimes, the very thought of intimacy evokes fear and these men and women tend to emotionally detach themselves from those who shower them with “too much attention”.

3. Obsession with Career

These career-conscious people believe that a partner can easily become a distraction and derail them from their goals.

4. Fear of Taking on Responsibilities

Often, the thought of taking on responsibilities such as starting a family or taking care of children can deter people from entering a relationship. They avoid dating or planning a future with the opposite sex due to their fear of taking on responsibility.

5. Not Ready To Compromise

Some of us prefer freedom over responsibility. It is true that we all love freedom, to a certain extent, but some people are so absorbed with themselves that they cannot afford to compromise or adjust their lives for anyone. This type of mentality often leads one to remain single forever.

6. Religious Causes

Apart from the mental restrictions, there are some religious causes as well that keep people single throughout their lives. Some religions propagate that celibacy is the only way to reach salvation as it keeps the spirit away from physical and emotional attachment. For this reason, many people choose a path of celibacy and chastity and do not engage in any romantic or intimate relationships.

7. They Simply Love Being Single

Whether it is for the ample freedom, the scope for self-improvement, no burden of responsibility or simply the habit of being alone, some people just love their “single’ status and decide not to get into any romantic relationship.

8. The Desire to Sleep with Multiple Partners

Some claim that monogamy is pushed on us by society and that it is not natural in humans. These people choose to have relations with multiple partners throughout their lives and are mostly content. Most of them don’t admit any regret until their later years.
