ItsJustANumber

⚠️ Heads up: ItsJustANumber is gone.
The age gap dating community that ran at itsjustanumber.com came off its server in September 2024, and the address has since served a parking script, a year of unrelated adult video pages and now a “Buy this domain” listing. Our original page is below, untouched.

What Happened to ItsJustANumber?

ItsJustANumber was a free age gap dating site and social network, built around older and younger members finding each other, and it ran for seventeen years. It never announced that it was closing. The files came off the server, and the address went on without them.

The last capture that still opens and shows the working site was taken on 24 August 2024. Three weeks later, on 16 September 2024, the same address answered with a bare Apache directory listing headed “Index of /” and nothing under it. The web server was still running. The site was not on it.

What the last working capture shows

A site going about its business. The wordmark reads It’s Just A Number, the navigation runs Search, My Page, Activity, Blogs, Pictures, Videos, Rules, FAQ and About IJN, and under the signup panel sit three columns of usernames headed Random Members, New Members and Latest Visitors. The faces that went with those names mostly come back missing now, so the rows render as broken image boxes with usernames underneath.

Whose site it was

It never named a company. The terms of service, archived on 24 June 2024, call themselves an agreement between “the operator of ItsJustaNumber” and the member, and no other party is identified anywhere on the site. What it did have was a voice. The About IJN page says the site “was founded in 2007 to fill a couple of voids in intergenerational social networking and age gap dating sites”, and the homepage carries the founder’s account of paying to join age gap sites, finding most of their members were looking for people their own age, and building a free one instead.

Free was the whole pitch, and the paperwork backed it. The terms state that the service “is provided free of charge” and that “You will never be charged for the service, nor will any IJN Admin, Moderator, employee or representative ever ask for any credit card or other financial information.” Google ad code sat in the pages, which is presumably what kept the lights on.

No farewell, and not much warning

The site’s News section contained exactly two posts for its entire existence. “What Makes Us Different”, from May 2016, claims an administrator looked at every new profile and approved or declined it by hand. “Music Posting Discontinued”, from February 2021, tells members that music files would no longer be allowed and suggests posting YouTube videos instead. That was the last thing the operator ever announced, three and a half years before the end. The newest member blog post in the site’s final year was dated March 2024.

What the address did next

By 13 May 2025 the domain was answering every request with a parking script. Dozens of old member profile addresses crawled that night all returned the same short, blank page, as did the terms page address, which opens as a blank screen carrying a parking payload rather than any terms.

Then it changed again. The homepage captured on 6 September 2025 is a Chinese language adult video site with a keyword stuffed title, and the captures through October, November and December 2025 and into January 2026 are more of the same, by then running on an index.php/lists-NN.html structure, with a mobile subdomain and with invented subdomains built out of other companies’ domain names. How an address ends up doing that cannot be read off the outside of it. A domain can be sold, it can lapse and be picked up, or it can be taken, and the captures do not say which. The last capture of any kind was taken on 24 January 2026.

The registration reads as a fresh start. Verisign records the domain as registered on 26 September 2026, expiring 26 September 2027, through the registrar OregonURLs.com LLC, on nameservers at abovedomains.com. A registration date that recent on a brand already seventeen years old means the name lapsed and somebody else picked it up. It now resolves to one address on an aftermarket parking host, the same answer from two separate resolvers, and a browser asking for the site is passed to ww38.itsjustanumber.com, where the page reads “Buy this domain.” above a line reading “2026 Copyright | All Rights Reserved.”

The original page below names itsjustanumber.com, because that is where the site was. Anyone who types it in today does not reach a dead dating site. They reach a listing for sale, at an address that spent the previous year serving something else entirely, which is why there is no link to it from this page.

If you had an account there

There is nothing to cancel, which is the easy part. The site took no money, and its terms capped the operator’s liability at “one dollar or any amounts actually paid in cash by you”, which for members was nothing. If a recurring charge on your statement looks like it came from here, it did not, and your card issuer is the place to find out what it actually was.

The profile is the awkward part. The terms said profiles were “generally deactivated or deleted if a member has not logged in for at least 90 days”, so an account left alone since 2024 was covered by that policy while there was still somebody running it. The same document reserved the right to “take complete control of any abandoned profile and all User Content associated with any abandoned profile at any time for testing purposes”. None of it can be checked now, and there is nobody to ask, because the terms also state that deactivation requests sent through a contact form were “automatically deleted by the mail server based on keywords in the email”.

So treat anything you posted there as out of your hands rather than confirmed deleted. If you used a photograph of yourself, a reverse image search every so often is the practical move, and if an address you only ever gave to that site starts receiving mail, that tells you something too.
