WishDates sells conversation. Its homepage offers to “build meaningful connections with people who share your mindset”, and the word hookup does not appear on it anywhere. The split that decides everything sits in the site’s own terms rather than on the lander: searching is free, chatting is not, and the payment terms put one Chat Gem at one minute of chatting. The meter starts at the point where somebody answers you.
Registration itself costs nothing and a free account can look around. Anything that reaches another member draws on a prepaid balance called Credits, and there is a second balance beside it called Chat Gems with its own clauses. The terms spell out what sits behind the meter: “Exchange of mail correspondence; Online chatting; Sending virtual gifts and stickers; Sending personal pictures and videos”. Minimum age is 18, and the rules require members to sign up under their real name.

Reach, and the Reports It Publishes
WishDates puts figures about itself out under its own name. It runs a Safety Centre carrying annual transparency reports for 2023, 2024 and 2025, each one published as a report on how the community is policed.
Around that sit three things anyone can verify: the operating company is Active on the Cyprus register, the domain is renewed through May 2027, and its registry record was last touched in May 2026.

Where the Free Side Stops
The free side is search and browse. Terms section 3 puts it plainly: “Some Services on our Website are paid. While searching is free, chatting is not. You can find out more about what’s paid and what’s not on your profile page and on other product pages.” The payment policy repeats it, and adds that Credits are what unlock the paid features.
A Credit is defined as “the virtual currency of WishDates exchanged to use paid features without any monetary value”. The same clause says Credits are “not legal tender”, that a member has no “possessory, ownership, interest, or similar rights” in them, and that WishDates keeps “unrestricted rights to issue, manage, cancel or eliminate Credits”. Free Credits are handed out from time to time and are never refundable.
Nothing in the rules and policies sets out a subscription or a recurring charge. The pack prices themselves live on the Credits page inside an account rather than on a public page. The policy names no payment provider and no card statement descriptor either. It says only that third parties process payments, that the site is “not a payment institution”, and that those providers may change. One automatic retry follows a failed payment.
Reading the Rules and Policies Page
WishDates keeps all five of its policies on one page, community-pages/rules-policies, anchor-linked, with a plain-English gloss printed above every clause. Everything below was read there.
The operator is named in section 21 as “Valesnova Limited, Georgiou A, 83, Germasogeia, 4047, Limassol, Cyprus”. That address matches the one on file for HE 467935, registered in Cyprus on 22 November 2024. The domain is older: Verisign’s registry record puts wishdates.com at 24 May 2011. Both dates stand on their own and neither document explains the fourteen years between them. Valesnova’s own corporate site describes the company as delivering marketing strategies and payment solutions for digital experience platforms, and names no brands at all.
On what the platform is, Terms 2.3 says this in one breath: “Although our platform is designed for entertainment, you must have your real name as our user.” The clause goes on to forbid impersonation. Artificial intelligence turns up in four separate places in the paperwork, and none of them is a chat partner. Moderation is the first: the acceptable use policy describes “a combination of AI-based detection tools and trained human moderators” and calls its own model “non-generative”, and the complaints policy repeats it as “a combination of Al technology and human moderation”. The privacy policy adds two more. Chat translation, where the site “may process your communications in chats and correspondence using the AI tool” and warns those translations “may contain errors, omissions, or inaccuracies”. And customer support, where an “AI assistant” may contact users on “security, notices, Service functioning and availability, financial and legal matters”. A machine learning model also picks which offers you are shown, with an opt-out you have to email for.
Two of the document’s own cross-references point at clauses it does not contain. Section 1.2 tells readers to study “Section 5 on the refunds” when the refund terms are section 4, and clause 4.11 refers to “clauses 5.10(c) to 5.10(d)” where no section 5.10 exists.
Refunds default to no. Unspent Credits come back only on a request made within three calendar days, with the account closed and a balance worth more than USD 20, and a fifth request is refused outright. Spent Credits are considered on three grounds only. The outer limits are 120 calendar days after a card payment and 180 after PayPal. Getting back into a locked account, under Terms 10.3, “will require uploading the identity document and a photo with a credit card”.

Is WishDates real?
It is a live, trading site with an operator that can be checked. The terms name Valesnova Limited at an address in Limassol, Cyprus, and the Cyprus register carries that company as HE 467935, incorporated on 22 November 2024 and currently Active, with the same address on file as the one in the site footer.
The domain is a separate matter. wishdates.com was first registered on 24 May 2011, is paid up to 2027, and its registry record was last touched in May 2026. Fourteen years sit between the domain date and the company date, and nothing in either record accounts for them.
Neither record says anything about who is on the other end of a chat window.
Is WishDates legit?
On the money side, the arrangement is written down and it is a prepaid one. There is no subscription clause and no recurring charge anywhere in the rules, so there is no renewal date to diary and nothing to cancel. You buy Credits, mostly in US dollars, and they draw down as you use paid features.
The refund rules are strict and they are published. Purchases are nonrefundable by default. Unspent Credits are returned only if you ask within three calendar days, close the account and hold a balance worth over USD 20, and the site says outright it will refuse a fifth request. Spent Credits are looked at on three grounds only, and even then the policy warns that a refund for Credits spent talking to someone who stopped replying is unlikely to be approved.
Disputes run under the law of England and Wales, from a Cyprus company, through binding arbitration with a class action waiver. In the EU and EEA the fourteen day right of withdrawal is asked for as a waiver at the moment you register.
What is WishDates used for?
Talking, and the site is open about that. Its own homepage line is about deep conversation and meaningful connection rather than meeting, and the paid list in the terms is a chat list: mail correspondence, online chatting, virtual gifts and stickers, and sending personal pictures and videos.
The payment terms put one Chat Gem at one minute of chatting, and say Chat Gems come out of the balance before Credits do, so a long conversation costs more than a short one. Messages between languages are machine translated. Searching profiles and setting up an account cost nothing, which means the free experience and the paid experience diverge at the exact moment someone writes back.
Is WishDates safe to use?
The site publishes a Safety Centre with annual transparency reports for 2023, 2024 and 2025, alongside safety guides and a set of blocking and reporting tools.
Its moderation is described as a mix of automated detection and trained human moderators, and the model doing the detection is called non-generative in the site’s own wording, meaning it classifies content rather than writing any. The acceptable use policy carries an age requirement and verification section, and the platform is 18 and over.
On the data side, Terms 10.3 covers a locked account. Getting back in “will require uploading the identity document and a photo with a credit card to check that you are a real person and an actual cardholder who initiated the payment(s) in question”. The privacy policy also names an opt out from its marketing model, by email to legal@wishdates.com with the subject line “ML customization opt-out request”.
Is WishDates free?
Free to join and free to search. Not free to talk. The terms draw the line at chatting and the payment policy states that paid features need Credits.
The site also hands out free Credits from time to time, and its policy says those particular Credits are never refundable. Pack prices are kept on the Credits page inside a logged in account rather than on a public page, so the number you pay is one you see after signing up, not before.
Who are you actually talking to on WishDates?
The documents put a real name obligation on members and forbid impersonation, in the same sentence that describes the platform as designed for entertainment. Those two halves belong together and the second one is a statement about what the product is for, not about who holds the accounts.
What is not in the paperwork matters as much. There is no clause anywhere in the rules and policies saying profiles may be fictitious, none saying the service is for entertainment only in the sense of never meeting, and none disclosing chat partners generated or operated by the site. Artificial intelligence is disclosed four times across the documents, and none of it is a chat partner: moderation in two policies, chat translation, and an “AI assistant” that may contact you about support matters like billing and security. A machine learning model also chooses which offers you see.
So the documents require real people and never claim any account is a real person. Nobody reading the paperwork can close that gap, which is precisely what the votes and comments below are for.
