Woman’s Body Language — 11 Signs to Look For

women's body language

Let’s be honest, when you’re interested in a woman you want to know what is going through her head. Is she succumbing to your flirtations? Is she herself trying to flirt with you? Does she find you interesting? Is she trying to draw you in closer or repel you?

Fortunately, there is a method to get some insight into what a woman is thinking — especially during the all-important phase of initial contact. A woman’s body language can reveal a treasure trove of information as to what she is thinking — and feeling — at that critical moment. Knowing what to look for in a woman’s body language requires analyzing her physical movements as well as her composure.

1. Eye Contact From a Distance
If a woman holds direct eye-contact with you from a distance for several seconds at a time, congratulations, she’s actually digging something about you. It usually means that she is giving you clearance to approach her. If this type of “long distance” eye contact happens more than once, that means that she’s practically demanding that you come closer.

Conversely, if when you glance in her direction she diverts her eyes, then she most likely has no interest in you. There is, however, an important caveat to this. If she diverts her eyes in a rapid movement — such as quickly looking down or away — then she may be interested in you, but possesses an introverted or timid personality. This can be confirmed if you catch her looking at you again when she thinks that you aren’t looking.

2. Eye Contact Up Close
Okay, you’ve taken the first step. There you are talking to her face to face. If during your conversation she continues to hold eye contact with you that means that she is definitely interested. If she breaks eye contact to gaze at your face, lips or body, she is expressing a physical attraction to you.

Watch for the “sexy triangle” move on her part. That involves her looking at your right eye, then your left eye and then your mouth. She may repeat that a few times. If she does that, then you know that she thinks you’re hot and getting hotter.

3. Fidgety Hands
Normally you may think of someone with fidgety hands as being nervous or insecure. In the context of seduction and romance, however, a woman’s restless hands represent something different.
If she is constantly playing around with her jewelry, stirring and re-stirring her drink, or simply running her finger over the same spot on the table or on her arm or neck, that’s a sign that she’s attracted to you. It’s a form of tension reliever that she subconsciously engages in to ease her nerves as she talks to whom she perceives to be “a catch.” Way to go stud!

4. Motionless hands
If while talking to a woman her hands are motionless, that means that she is tense and uncomfortable. In other words, she simply isn’t digging you and wishes you would move on.

5. Set heading for… YOU
Initial approaches and conversations are usually done maintaining a buffer zone conscious of her personal space and at a slight angle. If during the conversation she draws closer to you, adjusting her stance to face you more directly, turning her torso and feet toward you — she is displaying overwhelming interest in you. By the way, if the both of you are sitting, she would turn her feet and knees toward you to express her interest.

As you probably guessed, if on the other hand she gradually turns her body stance away from you until eventually, she is speaking to you at a 45-degree angle — then she’s just looking for a moment to get away from you.

6. The Head Tilt and Hair Toss
We don’t have to tell you that when that woman you’ve been eyeing all night starts to tilt her head and toss her hair as you’re talking to her… well, that’s just sexy as hell. It is also indicative that she not only finds you attractive but that she actually wants you to know that she does. It is body language for “I think you’re hot, do you like me?”

7. My, What BIG Pupils You Have
If while talking to a woman her pupils dilate as she is looking at you that is a very strong sign that she finds you attractive. This particular bit of body language is flirtation gold. While many of the other body language expressions have some room to be faked or misinterpreted, dilated pupils are reflexive. She can’t consciously control that. Pupils will only dilate when you first enter a dimly lit environment or when you are looking at someone who’s hot.

8. The Lingering Accidental Touch
If a woman “accidentally” touches you — especially if it happens more than once — she may be sending you a signal that she wants you to approach her. These touches can be in the form of letting her fingers touch yours or brushing up against your arm. They are very casual in nature but can be distinguished from a genuine accidental touch by the fact that they tend to linger.

9. Mirroring
Imitation is the greatest form of flattery. When a woman begins to fall for you, she also subconsciously begins to mimic you. No, we don’t mean doing an impression of you. This is more subtle. She will start incorporating certain mannerisms that you use or make similar facial expressions that you use to express likes and dislikes. Once a woman starts to mirror you, that means that not only does she like you, but she sees you as a”keeper.”

10. Lip Biting
When a woman begins to gently bite her lower lip or lick her lips, that is a sign of strong physical attraction. When combined with one or more of the other body language expressions listed above, you could be fairly certain that she’s falling for you.

11. The Shoe Dangle
If while engaged in a conversation with you, she begins to allow one of her shoes to dangle on her foot, or if she removes the shoe entirely, it’s a way for her to be playful and coquettish with you. She wants you to take notice that she’s being flirtatious and wants it to continue. She’s putting the ball in your court.

The Bottom Line on Female Body Language
While deciphering a woman’s body language is not an exact science, being aware of the basics will help you gauge where you stand. It can be the difference between you mustering the courage to approach her, or just thinking about what might have been.
